"Portals" a mural of Rodney Monk's own design has been completed at The MacDowell Colony this week. The mural adorns three sides of
The Toadstool Bookshop in Depot Square, Peterborough. Monk's mural was commissioned by the MacDowell Colony in honor of the
hundredth anniversary of the artists' retreat. Scattered amoung the windblown leaves that give the mural a sense of movement are reminders
of Peterborough's artistic bent, including a grand piano and an easel with a painting that pulls surrealistically away from the wall.
The mural also gives a nod to Peterborough's distant past with the silhouette of a Native American set against the hilly landscape.
